September 18, 2018
Over 250 New York families entered the contest, and thousands of people voted for their favorite photos. Now we have a winner: meet Sheeja Kurian and her daughter Serena!
Winner: Sheeja Kurian (My first meeting with baby Serena, Love at first sight, 2,050 votes)
Runner-up: Michelle Barbara (My little angel, My angel sent down by her sister in heaven, 1863 votes)
Runner-up: Amanda Stiles (Girl's first love¸ Willow Ann, 555 votes)
As enjoyable as it was to view the photos, it was also touching to read how the Paid Family Leave program made such an impact for New York families this year:
Summer in NYS
NYPFL has given me the awesome opportunity to spend countless hours of quality time with my son Salvatore (11 months old) enjoying Long Island's beautiful beaches!
Quality time on PFL
This is one of many pictures of my daughter and I bonding on leave. I am very grateful for PFL! My wife had a very difficult birth and complications after so having me home was such a big help. Don't know what we would've done without PFL!
We are so thankful for Paid Family Leave, giving us more time together during this period in our lives that is so very fleeting and precious.
Bonding with my little Bree
This photo was taken 3 days after I gave birth to my daughter Aubree Rose. Having family leave allowed me to bond with my daughter without having to worry about returning to work immediately. Very grateful.
Stay-tuned: Sheeja and her family will be featured in ShelterPoint's PFL educational campaign for 2019.
In the interim we also wanted to share some honorable mentions in this video:
Thank you again to all who participated! To keep all these wonderful photos accessible even after the contest ends, we have created a dedicated Facebook Album. Check out the real faces of PFL!
