NY Paid Family Leave: New York Readiness

Back in December 2017, we asked New York businesses how ready they were for Paid Family Leave (PFL).  While 28% of employers that participated in the study were quite prepared for Paid Family Leave, the biggest surprise was that ⅓ were barely prepared for PFL.

The 2 biggest areas where most employers still had their work cut out for them revolve around educating their employees:

  • Almost ¾ of employers (that’s 73.7%) had yet to educate and prepare their employees around PFL.
  • And almost 70% (68.4%) still had to create written guidance for their employees.

Are you one of the nearly 75% of New York employers who fell into this group?

Don’t worry, we have 4 great resources to help with that:

  1. New York State requires all employers to inform their employees about their Paid Family Leave rights, and to have some kind of written guidance about PFL. Whether that’s added to an existing employee handbook, or created as a PFL-specific document, it’s important to stay compliant and give your employees the information they need about NY’s Paid Family Leave.

If you need help getting started with your informative materials, New York State released useful resources to get you on the right track. Take some time to read through the article and use the guides to make your own materials to stay compliant.

  2. Distribute this NY Paid Family Leave brochure to your covered employees.

  3. Share these claims road maps with your employees.

  4. If you’re taking Paid Family Leave contributions from your employees, check out this page on premiums/withholdings.
