BILLING

  • Your current billing cycles will not change (whether they’re annual or quarterly).
  • Starting with November 2017 annual bills, our DBL invoices will include PFL as a new line item for policyholders who are required to provide (or who have opted in) for this coverage. You will be receiving more details along with your bill.
    • Bills for November renewals are expected to be mailed on 10/10/2017.
    • Policyholders billed quarterly in arrears will see PFL on their 1st quarter 2018 bill in April next year.
  • We will stagger the billing schedule based on renewal/effective dates for DBL/PFL with pro-rated PFL premiums where applicable:
    •  Policyholders renewing between May and October with annual bills will receive a one-time, pro-rated PFL-only bill. This allows you to get both coverages aligned on your DBL billing anniversary and for your annual reconciliation.

PREMIUM PAYMENT

As a ShelterPoint policyholders you can continue paying your premium via the same method you're accustomed to:

  • Paper bill: We have revised and put our DBL/PFL bill through multiple user tests to make the integration of the additional PFL calculation as easy as possible.
  • E-pay, our convenient and intuitive online payment tool for you includes context-sensitive help and does the math for you.

What you should keep in mind and have handy when paying for your new PFL benefit:

  • When it comes to head counts, coverage eligibility for DBL and PFL is not the same!
    Read this blog post to brush up on this topic.
  • Since the PFL rate is set as a percent of wages, you should have your payroll records handy, such as your NYS-45 or payroll system reports and then split your workforce into 2 groups – those above and those below the current annualized NYS Average Weekly Wage (NYS AWW) of $67,907.84*. Then take;
    • the count of employees whose pay exceeds the current annualized NYS AWW and
    • the total sum of all other covered employees with wages at or below this threshold.
*Based upon NYSAWW as of March 31, 2017. NY Department of Labor releases the updated NYSAWW every March 31.
